Government-authorized postage stamps are departure points from which artists explore various areas of aesthetic communication and information transfer. Their protected symbolic status regulated by governments, with strict laws against their reproduction and unauthorized use, postage stamps are vulnerable to artistic parody. Mail artists, like sovereign stamps, claim the stamp structure as their own, marking new territories, promoting designs internationally and commemorating networking personalities, exhibitions, and events.
